Celebrating the women founders behind Finnsøn
Women around the world deserve recognition, so we’re celebrating International Women’s Day by introducing you to the founders of Finnsøn, Amy and Kate. Long time friends, colleagues and both busy mums, we wanted to know what goes on behind the scenes at Finnsøn, from designing award-winning baby-changing bags and changing backpacks to running the business side of things – all while juggling family life.
What inspired you to create Finnsøn?
“After becoming mums around the same time, we struggled to find a luxury, unisex changing bag that fitted our personal style while respecting the environment. So we thought, we’ve got the design and parenting credentials, let’s create something together! So we launched Finnsøn – which is actually a combination of our sons’ names, Finn and Larson.”

How do you manage running a business and motherhood with young babies?
“Launching a business means wearing lots of different hats often at the same time; one day we might switch between creative director, production assistant AND model. We also try to be as adaptable as possible, which means our babies frequently come along for the ride! Kate’s daughter Ottie came along to our spring/summer photoshoot at 4 months old, and Maggie (Amy’s newborn) was a great attraction when we exhibited at the baby show for 3 days last year! It’s often tough and always a juggle but we try and make it work the best we can for us and our families. The opportunity to have the flexibility to work around our family was one of the reasons we started Finnsøn!”

What are your favourite Finnsøn pieces?
“Creating functional products first and foremost means we roadtest every piece in the Finnsøn collection, and two of our favourites are the Selby eco-changing tote and Frida eco stroller organiser.
Selby is the larger of our changing bags so it’s ideal for outings with a baby and a toddler – or twins – the two bottle holders and a multitude of pockets make the organisation of snacks, toys and nappies that little bit easier!
The Frida eco stroller organiser is the perfect compact bag that doubles as a handbag without the kids! We both love the signature leopard….it’s a bestseller for a reason. Frida also comes with clips so you can strap it to the buggy for a quick trip to the park or nursery and school pick-ups. While it’s smaller than our large bags, it’s big enough for all the essentials for a shorter outing.”
